Using AI Generator ChatGPT to create free Art & Images

Wash Your Paws AI Art

Did you know that you can create all kinds of cool images and free digital art with the help of ChatGPT AI image generation?

If you’re like me, artificial intelligence, or “AI”, still feels like something from a sci-fi movie, but AI technology is rapidly evolving for use in a wide range of applications.

I am by no means an expert when it comes to using any of the AI models currently available to the average user for personal projects. Still, I’m here to tell you that if I can figure out how to create some fun AI-generated images and turn them into free personalized wall art for my home, so can you!

AI Image Generators

Since this was my first attempt at digital AI art, I spent a few hours experimenting with various free AI-powered tools.

There is no shortage of options available in this creative landscape, so don’t be afraid to play around and see what fits best with your artistic style.  I’m telling you, once your creative spark is ignited, it’s hard to stop!

Step-by-Step Guide

Ultimately, I decided that ChatGPT seemed to be the best AI image generator for my purpose.  If this is your first time using the ChatGPT image generator, here are some helpful steps:

1. Begin by creating a free account on the official ChatGPT website or mobile app.

2. A text prompt will appear that says “Ask me anything”.  Click “Create an image”.

3. Enter text descriptions for what you want your artwork to look like.  For best results, use detailed descriptions.  For example, “Create a replica of a canvas oil painting of my dog camping. Use bright colors with lots of green.”

4. Next, use the “+” button to upload an image.  I added these two photos of my dog.

5.  Then, the image creator will get to work.  It may take a couple of minutes as it processes through a vast number of AI algorithms.  It’s okay to open a new tab or screen while you wait.  A notification will appear when your image is ready.  (I’ve noticed that it can be a bit glitchy at times.  If your image is not there after waiting a few minutes, click on “Library” in the menu bar, and your image will probably be there.)

6. If you are not satisfied with the resulting image, click on the photo and then “edit”. Rather than a single prompt, add specific details to describe your perfect image.  Include specific elements such as image style (sketch, cottage core, vintage, oil painting), art style (classical, impressionist, abstract, pop art), image quality (higher resolutions, aspect ratio), colors to include, etc.

7.  You can continue going back and forth with this creative process until you are satisfied with your custom images.

My Free Art from ChatGPT AI Image Generator

Camping Pup Art

Once I had the first two pics created, I knew I wanted two more to complete a set of four square tiles. I asked ChatGPT for more ideas of what else my dog could be doing while camping. ChatGPT suggested ideas like my dog running down a path in the woods, my dog fishing, my dog in a canoe, my dog sleeping by the fire, my dog lying on her back gazing at the moon.

As you can see, I selected the last two ideas.

Kids’ Bathroom Wall Art

Next, I asked for some vintage bathroom art of my dog. The bathtub art was the first thing ChatGPT gave me. Then I asked for a similar picture with my dog brushing her teeth.

One thing I should have changed about these is correcting the coloring so they were both the same tone. Fortunately, one is hanging above the sinks, and one is in a separate room where the shower is, so it’s not as noticeable compared to when they are side-by-side.

I could have corrected this by asking ChatGPT to coordinate the color tones of the two pics if I had noticed it before sending them to Walgreens to print on the canvases. You can learn from my mistake.

Premium Version of ChatGPT

After you’ve created a few images, ChatGPT will prompt that you’ve reached the limit of your free credits.  At this point, it will give you the option to upgrade to a paid plan.

If you’re having a great time designing your AI-created art, you may decide that a ChatGPT Plus paid account is right for you. As of right now, the Plus plan (which is the most popular) is $20 per month.

For me, I just needed a couple more AI images to finish out my project, so I used my second email address to sign up for another free plan in order to finish my image creation.

Take Your Art to the Next Level

Once I was happy with my designs, I opted for two different ways to display them.

Decoupage DIY

Decoupage is a great way to display your art the DIY way.

I designed these four square images of my dog in various camping scenarios because I plan to use them as decor in our motorhome.  I created a 6×6-inch square custom print option on my computer and printed the images on regular paper in the “best” print quality mode.

Then, using these unfinished wood crafting squares from Amazon, along with some pretty green Dixie Belle paint and matte Mod Podge, I simply decoupaged my printed photos onto the square frames.

To finish them off, I gave them a light spray of clear matte spray paint to seal them. The RV gets some humidity when not being used, so I wanted to make sure the art held up.

Print on Canvas

The puppy in the bathroom prints are for the guest bath that my grandbabies use when they stay here. I think they will get a giggle out of seeing Penny Puppy brush and bathe right along with them.

Walgreens was having a 70% off sale on all canvas prints, so I sent them to my local store, where they offer “same day canvas prints”.  I received my two 11×14-inch canvases and had them hanging on my wall less than 3 hours after sending them off to Walgreens.

Places like Walgreens, Shutterfly, Snapfish and Canva all offer various types of home decor options for printing on not only canvases, but also on wood plaques, magnets, coffee cups, calendars, pillows and more.  There are endless possibilities all of your creative ideas.

Print & Frame

The simplest method of all is to print your art, either on your computer or send it to print as an actual photo. This is what I did for my final piece of art. I had it printed at Walgreens in a 5×7″ photograph and placed it in a frame that I already had.

I set it right next to the bed where my oldest grandbaby sleeps when she visits. Of course, I asked ChatGPT to replicate a similar antique bed for Penny Puppy as the one in the guest room.

  2. These are so precious Niky and your pup is now a star! I love that you are sharing your experience with AI. I have been taking a deeper dive into learning about it this Summer and I can admit I am quickly changing my mind about the technology. It really is just a tool to use and not something that is going to take over our minds as I was recently told. It is up to us to responsibily use this tool and open up new possibilities in products and ideas. This post will be a feature not this week not only for the idea but because your pup is so precious. I need some artwork of my fur babies now too. #HomeMattersParty
