Life Lately
Hints of Fall, finally…
The weather is finally starting to turn toward fall just a little bit here in Iowa. After a stretch of blazing hot days, we had a storm early in the week, with some cooler weather behind it reminiscent of fall, and just that fast, I found myself ready for Pumpkin Spice Lattes and comfort food dinners.
Other signs of fall are sneaking in as well.
The flocks of geese are returning to the nearby pond and pasture, and the garden is finally slowing down.
We delivered a produce box to another one of our children who lives in her own apartment nearby, and that may be close to the final harvest.

I will miss all the homegrown, organic produce, but seriously this garden wore me out this year. I’m kinda ready for a break.
I’ve never seen anything like what our garden did this year. Let me give you an example for comparison:
July 2020 July 2021
Both photos are taken at approximately the same time in the growing season. The only difference between the two years is that we topped off the raised beds with 10 bags of Costco organic garden soil this year.
Costco must sell magical dirt, because we literally had at least 10 times the yield this year. Moral of this story: if you’re a gardener, get yourself some dirt from Costco.
In other news…
I’m in full-scale “baby mode” right now.
The invitations went out this week for the baby shower next month, and in a couple of weeks, I’m headed to my daughter’s house for the weekend to help put the nursery together. Oh, my heart almost can’t take it. 🍼💕
I’ve already picked up a few things for our little Poppy. Okay, maybe more than few. Okay, I might have a problem…
But seriously, why are tiny baby shoes so hard to resist?
Long Weekend…
The mister and I are on kind of opposite schedules this weekend, unfortunately. I worked on Friday and he was off, so he planned dinner and cooked us a delicious steak dinner on the grill.

Then, he worked all weekend, so I used the opportunity to catch up on a lot of projects.
Thankfully, we have tomorrow off together, so we’re having a little BBQ with some of the family. Aren’t long weekends the best?
In Case You Missed It…
I shared these delicious Cookie Dough Protein Balls that I like having in my freezer for a quick grab ‘n’ go breakfast on busy work mornings.

Niky, I love your laundry room! Great ideas for a refresh. Unfortunately, my laundry room is simply a section of the garage. But it has an adjoining covered patio where I can roll out my clothesline to airdry things I don’t want to put in the dryer. And I have a handy spot in my home office/art studio where I can set up my wooden folding rack to dry my delicates. Thanks so much for hosting. Can’t wait to hear about the nursery decorating!
I’m sure your beyond excited about doing your grandbaby’s nursery. Thanks for hosting this party each week.
Tiny baby shoes really are hard to resist! How adorable! You must be so excited for the arrival of the wee one. Oh happy days! And what a spectacular garden. I am the worst gardener ever but now that I know about Costco’s magic dirt, I may have to try planting something next planting season!
