Welcome to Sundays on Silverado #50! Thank you for coming to share your amazing creations week after week. Life Lately
My Birthday Boy
My “baby” boy turned 24 this week. I mean, really, where does the time go? It seems like yesterday I was rocking him and looking into those adorable big brown eyes. Now, he’s loose in the world!
He’s so smart, such a hard worker, has a kind heart, and is seriously funny. He has the best sense of humor, and the patience to wait it out for however long it takes for me to discover his clever antics. For 24 years now, he’s been making his mama laugh. Love this kid so much. Happy Birthday, Matthew!

We’ll be celebrating with a big family dinner, which makes me so happy.
So many projects, so little time…
I’ve been working so hard these past two weeks since we got back from vacation to get several projects on my summer “to do” list accomplished. I’ve stripped, painted and stained several pieces of furniture, tried out new recipes and cocktails, worked on my garden, made more pickles, and gave one of our guest rooms a pretty update. I have a lot to share with you over the next couple of weeks. Plus, I need to get some vacation posts written about our big road trip last month! Again, where does the time go? The beginning of the school year is racing towards me and I still have so much to do!
Here’s a little sneak peek:
Coffee fuels a lot of my projects.

On the move…
Because I’ve been insanely busy, I’ve trended toward things during the day that are “grab & go”, so I can eat on the move. Lately, I’ve been really loving this delicious little breakfast that combines one of my Costco favorites–Mixed Nut Butter– with one of my new Trader Joe’s faves–Organic Dark Chocolate Rice Cake Thins. Add some banana slices to the top, and it’s a great breakfast.
For lunch, I almost always have a protein smoothie with a scoop of Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides blended in. I like being able to vary the flavors, depending on what I’m in the mood for, and take it with me on the run. My current summer favorites are Cherry Almond and Peach. Sometimes I make a coffee flavored one with Starbucks Iced Coffee if I need another caffeine boost.
Corn Sweat
It’s been hot here in Iowa. Hot and humid…. Uhg. That combo makes it even harder to get stuff done. I’m blaming it on the corn sweat. Yes, I said corn sweat. It’s a real thing. We live deep in the middle of Iowa farm country and in our semi-rural area, we are literally surrounded by hundreds of acres of sweating corn.
I don’t like the humidity, but at least we do have the benefit of getting to enjoy fresh Iowa Sweet Corn. The farm down the road is selling their locally grown corn at their farm stand this year. It’s so good, and only available for a very short amount of time, so we savor it while we can.

In Case You Missed It…
One of the projects I worked on this week was thinning out my raised bed garden a bit by moving my herbs to these whiskey barrels. To make sure they stayed hydrated, I set up an automatic watering drip irrigation system for less than $30 bucks and about one hour of my time. So worth it!
We also had fun playing with the new fajita pans my husband got for Father’s Day by making Sizzling Steak Fajitas on the Grill. So fun, and so delicious!
The Weekly Features!

I do not consider myself to be an expert furniture painter by any stretch of the imagination, but there are so many good tutorials available, and so much great inspiration, that I feel pretty good about the makeovers I’ve given to some of my own pieces. Especially my special ones. I love being able to use a treasured piece of furntiture by updating it and making it work with my home’s decor, rather than sitting in storage someplace.
This week, there were several wonderful furniture and accessory paint makeovers linked up!

Custom Blended Vanity | Creative Moments

Painted Console Table | Wise Little Owl Furniture

Quick and Easy Lamp Makeover | The Crowned Goat

Antique Mirror Makeover | Sweet Pea
All features have been pinned to the Sundays on Silverado Pinterest Board!
Time to link up again!

Happy Birthday to your son. Mine will be 24 at the end of the month. Great little projects there.
Sorry, I haven’t been around that much. I ended ESY and started helping out my Godmother in a summer camp she runs and it is draining.
Thanks for hosting and I hope that you have a wonderful week.
Happy Birthday to your son, too! Wow, you’ve had a busy summer! When does school start again for you?
Our first day is August 16th. When is yours
First day for teachers is also August 16th with kids back on August 24.
Thank you so much for featuring my guest bedroom lamp makeover, Niky, I really appreciate it. I have NO idea why I waited so long to take the plunge and finally paint that piece but I’m definitely glad I did. Love all the pictures of you and your coffee mugs. I feel the same way 🙂 Hope your week is filled with all good things! Hugs and thank yous, CoCo
CoCo, the lamp is perfect. I loved you how showed your first attempt, and then did it over again when you didn’t like it. Keeping it real!
Thanks so much for sharing!
Niky
I had no idea that corn sweat was a thing! Your lunch smoothies sound delicious.
Joanne,
Haha, so glad I am educating people about “corn sweat”. LOL Yes, the smoothies are delicious and easy. I love summer. 🙂 Soon I’ll be back in school and lunch smoothies will be no more.
Thanks for featuring my console table project! I hope your readers enjoy it! Happy birthday to your sweet little one!
Thanks for hosting Niky! You’ve been busy! Can’t wait to see all your projects in the coming days. Have a great week.
Thanks for hosting, Niky! Have a wonderful time celebration Matthew!
Hope you have a great week and thanks so much for the party!
Miz Helen
THANK YOU for featuring my blended blue vanity, I was so surprised and humbled!!
Had to laugh about the corn sweat but I can imagine it’s really hot and humid there. Hope you have a great rest of the weekend. Thanks for hosting!
Your breakfast idea sounds delish. No matter how I try to change it up, my daily oatmeal is getting a little boring. I can’t wait for corn season here in August. We get fresh Taber corn from farmers in southern Alberta. Thanks for hosting and have a lovely Sunday and birthday celebration with your family.
Niky,
Thanks again for hosting this lovely party every week! I know how much time and effort goes into doing so and it is greatly appreciated!! Stay safe, healthy and happy!!
Hugs,
Debbie
