“School’s out for summer…” đļ
Am I the only one who hears a little Alice Cooper in my head every year when school lets out?
I’m tellin’ ya, this summer vacation is much needed, and we ushered it in well. The hubs had a few days off too, so we spent them doing all the things we love to do. We slept in (7am is “sleeping in” when you’re old btw), we drank leisurely coffee in the morning sun, and sipped cocktails at the end of the day. In between we dilly-dallied around the yard and garden, went to an estate sale, had a picnic in the park, and we even went out to the race track to bet on the ponies.
It was a good few days…
In Case You Missed It…
A few fun posts went up on the blog this week!
- DIY Garden Bench Makeover
- Easy Rhubarb Custard Bars
- Trader Joe’s JalapeÃąo Limeade Watermelon Margaritas!
The Weekly Features!

Now that it’s summer, I have a protein smoothie for lunch nearly every day. It’s cool, refreshing, satisfying, and I can carry with me with me while I work on projects, visit the garden, or work on my blog. My go-to favorites are THIS Fresh Peach one, and THIS Cherry Almond one, but I am always on the lookout for a new recipe, and this rainbow one from Claire looks amazing! Recently, I purchased THIS Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides Powder Supplement to add to my smoothies and I love it! It’s flavorless, but adds both protein and collagen for improved hair, skin and nails.

I love horses, and the story of D’artagnan was so fun to read. Thanks for sharing, Tiffany!

Barbara has so many beautiful flowers in her garden, and she is a pro at arranging them. I’m still working on getting our cutting garden established in our new home, but I aspire to have as many varieties as Barbara!

Very nice. I am so happy for you. 15 more ESY days for me. It has been so weird as I am doing hybrid because the district screwed up and gave parents the choice when they told us, it was only going to be in-person, Grrr.
Hope you are enjoying your time off.

Enjoy your summer ! Retired school librarian here – and every year on the last day of school my wonderful husband would have SCHOOL’S OUT blasting as I came down for breakfast!!! Great post – and thanks for the tip on the Vital for my smoothie!
I pinned Claire’s smoothie recipe because I have a smoothie every day for lunch too. I must try the Vital proteins collagen powder for an added boost. I currently using Vega One powder and quite like the vanilla flavor. Have a wonderful Sunday, Niky! Like you we’re starting ours with a coffee on the deck in our pjs and a glass of wine later tonight,
Sounds like you had a lovely start to your summer vacation.
