Sundays on Silverado #39

Life Lately

DIY Blog Hop!

I’m bringing you Sundays on Silverado a day early this week, because tomorrow is our montly DIY Blog Hop. I hope you’ll stop back by tomorrow to see how I made two Farmhouse Signs from Thrift Store Finds, plus you will be treated to several other DIY thrift store makeovers from my talented blogger friends!

Time Outdoors!

The weather is finally becoming steadily more warm, offering some much needed opportunities to spend time outdoors, enjoying happy hour at home, cooking dinner on the grill/smoker, and enjoying some lovely Iowa sunsets over the pasture. These are the months I crave all winter long….

Getting the Garden Ready

We added 14 bags of compost and garden soil to our Deer-Proof, Raised-Red Garden this week. Fortunately, my husband has THIS handy garden cart that attaches to his mower, making it super easy to haul all that heavy stuff out back.

It’s almost time to get planting. I’m having a hard time holding myself back, but Mother’s Day in Iowa is usually our rule of thumb for putting out cold sensitive plants. We shall see if I can wait that long… πŸ˜‚ πŸ…πŸ₯•πŸ₯’

Thrifting

I popped into a couple of thrift stores and a garage sale, since I had two blog hops centered around thrift-store finds scheduled, and fortunately came away with some great finds.

The two Rosenthal~Sanssouci Ivory Square Embossed Serving Bowls I got for $1.50 each. They are going for considerably higher for that online.

I got the three milk glass bud vases and the square milk glass candy dish for 10 cents each at a garage sale! I mean, that’s almost free….πŸ˜›

And the vintage ironstone tureen on the rectangular platter was only $2.99. It looks so pretty with my mom’s hobnail milkglass pitcher and the upcycled lazy Susan in my spring kitchen.

A New Ride

My husband traded his older Jeep in for a 2021 version. There was a little mishap on the day he brought it home. 😱 Par for the course in this 2020/21 year we’ve endured I guess. Oh well, the dealership made it right, and all’s well that end’s well, right?

In Case You Missed It….

This month’s Pinterest Challenge was all about spring kitchen decor. You can catch my post HERE, as well as get a glimpse into several other beautiful kitchens.

I also used some of my homegrown rhubarb to make this Old Fashioned Rhubarb Custard Pie. It’s tart, and creamy, and soooo easy to make. You can find the recipe HERE.

The Weekly Features!

The fruity seasonal desserts really caught my attention this week! Between the lemon and lime cheesecakes and the boozy fruit pudding… I mean, wow. These are definitely recipes worth saving!

The Best Lemon Cheesecake | My Wee Abode

Cheesecake Factory Copycat Key Lime Cheesecake | More or Less Cooking

Boozy Summer Pudding | Glutarama

All features have been pinned to the Sundays on Silverado Pinterest Board!

  1. We’re a couple of weeks behind you for garden planting. In the meantime, I’ve got egg cartons on every window sill in this house with starter herbs and veggies. That’s a nice thrift store haul you got there and talk about great prices! Happy May Day weekend, Nicky πŸ™‚

  2. Hi Niky! Thanks for another awesome party. Those desserts look amazing and your thrifted signs are fabulous. We just had cocktails & apps on the front sitting area last night. Loving the warmer weather for sure! XO- MaryJo

  3. Mother’s Day is our time to plant outside as well. We had a storm last night that really whipped things around. Hopping to plant my garden soon.
Your 10 cent finds are a fab deal! How nice to bring home fun items like them.
    Have a good week

  4. Ooh, Niky, I really love your thrift shop/garage store finds! My sister has collected milk glass for years so I always get a kick out of seeing these types of pieces. And now I am excited for garage sale season! We got the smoker out yesterday for the first cookout of the season and it was so great to get into outdoor mode! Thanks for hosting the link party. I hope you are having a wonderful weekend.
