Sundays on Silverado #319

Claire's 2nd bday

Life Lately

I got in lots of fun grandbaby time this week.

Our youngest grandbaby, Claire, turned two recently and had an adorable “Two Wild” birthday party. She wasn’t in the mood for photos, though, and made us work hard for some good ones.  🤣

I spent a few days at Evie and Hayden’s house, too.

It was fun to take Hayden to his “ninja” class.

He loves it, and it was a great way to get out some little boy energy on a rainy day! He was so proud to show me all the things he could do.

A couple of weeks ago, Evie brought home a Scholastic book order in her backpack. I used to love those when I was a kid, and later, when I had my own children, I always let them choose a book.

Plus, as a retired reading teacher, I know how those orders also support the teacher in adding books and materials to the classroom.

So, of course, I told Evie—and also Hayden, who brought one home from preschool the next day—to choose a book and Gigi would get it for them.

Hayden easily chose Paw Patrol, no surprise there, and right away, Evie chose a Clifford book that also came with a stuffed red dog.

She said she wanted it because there was a Clifford book at “Gigi’s home” that I had read to her several times when she stayed with us last month. ❤️

We showed her all the other books in the flyer, but she never changed her mind from Clifford, so of course, that’s what we ordered.

I wasn’t there when the teacher sent it home in her backpack, but my daughter sent me a video of how happy she was when she saw it.

The funniest part? It came with an adoption certificate, and when her mom asked her what to name it, she said, “Gigi!” 🤣

Grandbabies and books, two of my favorite things combined. ❤️❤️❤️

Hayden hasn’t gotten his book yet, but I hope he loves it just as much.

In Case You Missed It…

Speaking of books, it’s always been important to me to help my grandkids cultivate the love of reading.

Here are a few ways I’ve tried to do that over the years. In addition, of course, to letting them choose books from Scholastic, even if it ends with a big red dog sharing my name. 🤣

  1. How fun to have a red pup named after you and how wonderful to have so much time with your sweet grandkids, too! I remember when you first posted about your Advent book calendar and this will be my third year preparing one for our Littles – the books are already wrapped since we use the same books from year to year! They look forward to it each year and then we check in nightly to see which Christmas book they’ve unwrapped that day! It’s a special tradition so thank you so much! You are so right – there’s nothing better than books and Littles! Thanks for the party!
