Sundays on Silverado #286

Life Lately

The basement purge and organization continues. We didn’t get quite as much done this week as we spent a lot of time with all three grandbabies at different times throughout the week. Way more fun!

The fun part of going through all the boxes, however, is uncovering old photos and memories.

Last week, I told you about how I dug out our old videotapes for when the kids were little and had them digitized.

This week, I came across these two vintage pics of my dad, circa 1940s.

I might set them out on display for a while. I am of the mindset that it’s more enjoyable to actually display and use my vintage/antique items for enjoyment, rather than let them hide in a box.

Below are two decor vignettes I created where I did just that. The first one is several of my mom’s vintage valentines from the 1950s pressed behind a glass frame. They remain preserved, but make the sweetest Valentine’s Day decor.

The second is a farmhouse tiered tray, where I used a horseshoe and an old photo of my grandparents’ farm, as well as my grandfather’s pocket watch.

  1. What treasures! I love those discoveries of your dad. (I’m all about memory-keeping, so it’s my side gig: https://www.forever.com/ambassador/jennifer-wise) I’ve been working on putting descriptions in the ancestor photos I have stored in my digital albums, and it’s just SO interesting to see those faces and add their stories into the descriptions. I can’t get over how much my grandpa at 24 looks like my youngest son (who is 21). Thanks for hosting this fun linkup! I’m sharing 3 posts and am off now to visit other and see what everyone is sharing. Have a great week!

    1. I agree, Jennifer! It is so amazing to see old photos of family members and ancestors we never knew, and to notice any resemblance we see in them!
Very coool about your side gig. I’m going to check it out now!

  2. We are working on purging and organizing our basement as well. We are making progress with baby steps! Thank you so much for sharing my post about our new rescue dog. Have a great week!
