Life Lately
We’re just recently back from our trip seeking out some warm weather. Oh boy, did we pick the right week to go. Temps here in Iowa dipped down into the negatives with “feels like” temps as low as -32.
We sure were happy to be enjoying sunshine and sand, but I did feel a bit guilty for my son, who volunteered to babysit our new pup and had to take her outside in the frigid cold. Shout out to Matthew & Adri. We appreciate you two!
The Sun Princess
When I was a kid, I loved to watch The Love Boat (I’m showing my age here 😊). I think that makes it just a little extra fun to travel on Princess Cruise Lines now, which is the line featured in the show.
This is their newest and biggest ship, and it was fun to explore all of the new features.
Saying goodbye to Fort Lauderdale with sail-away cocktails…
After the sail-away party, we enjoyed some time poolside watching the Chiefs game before our first dinner onboard.
We enjoyed several delicious (and beautiful!) cocktails over the course of the week.
After a couple of days sailing, we found the warm weather! In Belize, we took a fun wildlife jungle cruise, complete with plenty of rum punch!
We enjoyed some of the best entertainment on this ship than any other cruise we’ve taken. There was always something fun to do.
Jill Whelan was onboard. She played Captain Stubing’s daughter on The Love Boat.
Our pale Iowa skin had to be super careful in the Carribean sun, but we did manage to soak in some rays both onboard in the gorgeous Dome, and on a beach day.
I tried to unplug on this trip and relax, so I don’t have a ton of picks. Unexpectedly adopting our rescue pup a few days before Christmas totally upended things around here, and we were tired by the time we made it on vacation. Thank goodness for a few days of R&R.
Penny
Speaking of Penny, she’s living her best life right now, basically stuck to me like glue while we work on her separation anxiety.
Since we’re still working on leaving her home alone, she basically goes with us everywhere dogs are allowed. Good thing she rides nicely in her fancy little car seat.
She’s hanging out in my office keeping an eye on me right now while I write this post. 🤣 One eye open so I can’t get away.
In Case You Missed It…
We’ve been gone so much lately, and so busy with this pup, I’m honestly not sure if I’m going to get out my Valentine’s decor this year. We’ve barely gotten our Christmas stuff put away!

Looks like a fabulous getaway – and YES, I remember The Love Boat. I always think of it when we cruise ! So glad you were away during the cold weather. We traveled to the West Indies on a Viking Cruise over the holidays…liked being in the warm weather so much we have booked another warm holiday for this year! In the ’80s, my husband and I taught duplicate bridge on about 3 different Princess cruises, so had our cruises paid for. It was fun b/c we got to know the crew well. The dining room Maitre d’ took us with him when he had a stop in Mexico City ~ and the head chef taught me how he made the giant rum balls for afternoon tea! (20 years later when we start back on cruises, our tastes evolved to Holland America {no kids and a little more formal}) … but that was a fun period in our lives!
What a great time to get away. It was soooo cold here in Missouri! Little Penny is so adorable and so well behaved. Thanks so much for having us over. Hope you get some warmer weather this week.
