Sundays on Silverado #22

Life Lately

Yes, I’m a day early with Sundays on Silverado, but that’s because tomorrow I’ll be posting my contribution to this month’s DIY Blog Hop. I hope you’ll come back Sunday morning and see my Winter Inspired Entryway Table and Tiered Tray. All of my Christmas decor is down now, except for the trees. I’m leaving those a day or two longer, but I still want some wintery decor around here. Iowa is a winter wonderland blanketed in snow right now, so it doesn’t feel quite time for Valentine or spring decorating.

Vacation

My husband worked on Christmas Day and for the 4 days after, but then had the last 5 days of my winter break off with me. We slept in, cooked some good food, lounged around the house, caught up on Shameless, did a bit of antique shopping… It was lovely, and much needed.

Beef Bourguignon during a snow storm. This recipe will be coming to the blog soon!
The Great British Baking Show Cookbook

My daughter and son-in-law gave me The Great British Baking Show Cookbook for Christmas. I’ve been watching the show at night because it’s light and brainless viewing, which I require to close all the tabs open in my mind and be able to sleep.

The first recipe I tried was a Bakewell Tart, and it was so good! If you’re also a fan of the show, you’ll know what I mean when I say there was “no soggy bottom”. 😂 I like to think it may even have earned a Paul Hollywood handshake!

I will share the recipe with you soon. 😉

Cricut Maker

My husband gave me a Cricut Maker for Christmas and I am excited to get started with it. I’d love to know what you’re making with yours and see links to some of your projects. I’m not even sure where to start. Help!

Happy New Year

We had a quiet evening in.

To be honest, I’m not really sure how to feel yet about the new year. 2020 handed out some of the most painful experiences of my life, and I’m not entirely sure just yet that ’21 will be better.

Am I hopeful? Yes. Confdent? Not just yet.

Funny, but also not funny, because of how true it is.

The Weekly Features

I truly love seeing all the things you guys share!

DIY Playroom Closet Makeover | Two Paws Farmhouse

I love this sweet little closet makeover from Hayden at Two Paws Farmhouse. It’s such a clever way to turn a cluttered space into something functional.

December Book List | Slices of Life

I miss reading. I used to be a voracious reader, and lately, life just hasn’t allowed for that. One of my goals for 2021 is to find more time to read again.

Driving the Virgin River Gorge | Adventures in Weseland

I also miss traveling! We tentatively have some travel plans for this year, but again, I’m not letting myself get too excited until I see if 2021 is going to play nice.

My husband got his vaccine a couple of days before Christmas, because as a health care worker, he was in tier 1. We are hoping teachers will be in the next wave of vaccinations, and if so, we may be able to go someplace besides our back patio. Again, it’s a wait and see game right now, but Patrick’s scenic pictures have me ready for a roadtrip!

Thanks to all who linked up! All features have been pinned to the Sundays on Silverado Pinterest Board. I can’t wait to see your “new year” links!

PS. I’d be so grateful if you’d follow me on social media and subscribe via email using the box on this page! Then you won’t miss a thing from The House on Silverado.

  1. It looks like you guys had such a great time at Christmas and celebrating the New Year, Niky! I’m excited for you and I can’t wait to see all the goodies you’re going to make. Thanks so much for hosting each week. Hugs, CoCo

  2. Nobody has said anything to me about the vaccinations yet even though they want us to be in the next round. It is weird how I teach in a big city school district and no one is saying anything.

Anyway, that food looks mighty good. Wow, thanks for the feature and that put a smile on my face.

Happy New Year to you and your family.

  3. Happy New Year, Niky! Thanks for the chuckle this morning, the quote you shared couldn’t be more bang on. You are going to love your Cricut Maker, the possibilities are endless with that machine. Cheers to a much better 2021.

  4. Oh you are going to love your Cricut Maker!! I have one and while it really intimidated me at first I do love how versatile it is. Mostly I search up ideas on Pinterest and YouTube and then tweak them to suit my tastes. Thank you so much for featuring my book list!

  5. Hi Niky, I totally agree about 2020 and this new year AND the fact that the rest of Christmas is down except for my two “lights only” Christmas trees. they make me happy seeing them aglow. Thanks so much for hosting. Hope you can get your vaccination soon!
