Sundays on Silverado #11

Life Lately

The weather last weekend was perfect, so we decided to pack a picnic, and spend the day driving the rural country roads of Iowa, looking for some “junk”. We happend upon a couple of fun sales, including one called “Junk Zombie”. πŸ˜‚

Winterset, Iowa

We enjoyed the lovely weather, and browsing all the goodies, but in the end, I only came home with one treasure– this set of vintage Walker China fruit bowls from the 1940s. I got all 9 for 10 bucks, which was a steal. I can’t wait to use them in a table setting. ❀️

Here is my “new” Walker China, modeling a piece of Apple Nut Coffee Cake my mother-in-law made. We had dinner at her place this week, and she sent us home with some of this beautiful cake. She said it’s a recipe she’s had for as long as she can remember. Those are always the best kind of recipes, right?

Here’s the recipe, in case you want to try it:

Farm Fresh Eggs

My husband went to play tennis with a friend this week, and came home with these beautiful farm-fresh eggs, generously gifted to us from his friend’s own chickens.

I was excited about these beautiful eggs, but I wanted to see the chickens too, so my husband texted his friend, who prompty sent us this picture.

OMG, aren’t the beautiful? My husband promptly texted his friend back and said, “Now my wife wants chickens.” πŸ˜‚ πŸ˜‚ He’s not wrong.

Sweet Dumpling Squash

I discovered this new-to-me type of squash this week, and used them to make Autumn Salad. They are sweet, and nutty, and so cute! I will for sure be buying them again.

Hello Fresh

We are still getting our weekly delivery of Hello Fresh meals. We love the variety and the ease of just knowing all the ingredients for three delicious meals will be dropped right at our door each week. No hassle, no last minute trips to the store, no wondering what’s for dinner. We need that right now.

You can see my full review HERE, and you can use my link for $40 off if you want to give it a try yourself.

Treats for my Husband

I spent some relaxing time in the kitchen whipping up some treats for my hubs to take to work for his coffee breaks. Look for these Maple Pecan Bars on the blog this week.

Trader Joes

You might remember this Nut Butter Bar Mix from my Trader Joe’s Fall Haul a couple of weeks ago. I finally got around to making them, which was so simple–just add your choice of nut butter (I used almond), and either honey or maple syrup (I used a little of both). They remind me a lot of the Monster Cookie Energy Bites that I make regularly, but these are a good substitute when I need to whip something together in a matter of minutes. I’ve been eating a small square of these bars in the morning, when I take my vitimins.

Projects

My husband and I have been spending some time in the garage this week working on some special projects for Christmas. I can’t wait to show them to you! Also, can you believe Christmas is just the month after next? 😳

One evening this week, I looked up from the project we were working on, and saw this beautiful fall sunset. No matter what trials and tribulations we must endure, there’s something about the beauty of nature that always makes me feel like it’s going to be okay.

Costco’s Wine Advent Calendar

And, on a final note, let me leave you with this important information: Costco’s Wine Advent Calendars are in stores now! If you want one, I suggest you run, not walk, to Costco right now and get one. Last year they were sold out before October was over.

Last year, we tried to followed along with the calendar, but this year we decided we’d buy one (two actually πŸ˜‚), and drink them when we felt like it. I love that the bottles are half-sized, which pours just enough for one glass for both of us. Plus, we love sampling the wines from all around the world.

You can read my thoughts on the one we got last year HERE.

Our first bottle from this year’s calendar.

That’s all for this week. Let’s get on with this week’s lovely features.

The Weekly Features!

Pink and Purple Fall Front Porch from Living on Cloud Nine

I was so excited when Andrea shared this on Sundays on Silverado last week, because I had already seen it on her blog, and loved it. It has me thinking of how to use pinks (my favorite color) in my fall design for next year! Absolutely stunning.

Easy Rust Activated Abstract Pumpkin Topiaries by Interior Frugalista

I enjoyed reading about the process for making these rusty pumpkin topiaries that Marie shared. I love the rustic appeal, and how unusual they are.

Making a Fall Sign Using the Cricut by Slices of Life

I made my own Fall Porch Sign this year, using the pencil lead transfer method, because I don’t have a newer Cricut (mine is one from about 12 years ago). I’ve been thinking of getting one though, so when I saw this post by Joanne, I was excited to read about how she used it to make her sign. It’s so cute!

For those of you with a Cricut Maker (that’s the one I’m thinking of getting, but they seem to be sold out everywhere right now), I’d love to hear your thoughts and suggestions! Is the Cricut Maker the right choice? What all do you make with yours? Any help you can give me in making up my mind would be much appreciated. Y’all are so clever and crafty! πŸ’œ

All features have been pinned to the Sundays on Silverado Pinterest Board and shared on social media.

  1. Love the dish set you found, Niky, and all your nods to the season too! I swear every recipe you make looks amazing. I can’t wait to try it all. Thanks so much for hosting each week. Hugs, CoCo

  2. Those maple bars look and sound amazing! I can’t wait to try out that recipe! I love pecan anything! AND your apple coffee cake recipe…you just know it will be something special when you have a handwritten recipe! YUM! Your weekend sounds perfect!

  3. Thanks for featuring my homemade sign! I got my Maker two years ago as a Christmas gift from my husband and I just LOVE it. I use it for card making, decorating clothing, bowls, signs, glass etching stencils and so much more.

  4. Niky, I have had my Cricut about 4 years. I go in spurts as to use, but I love it. I use it for cutting out designs from paper and vinyl. I am actually a Cricut affiliate if you want to check out specials. You can find the link on my sidebar.

  5. My kids gave me a Cricut Maker for Christmas and while I’m still learning the ropes, so far I’ve made t-shirts, wooden signs, decals, and my own stencils. But you can cut balsa wood, leather, cardstock, and draw with it for homemade cards. I have a lot to learn but I absolutely LOVE this machine! Thank you for featuring my stacked pumpkins, Niky, it is much appreciated. xo Wishing you a lovely Sunday.

  6. I love to read about your week and adventures. I want chickens, too! We had them when I was growing up and I would love to see them in our yard. I just have to convince my husband…Have a great week, Niky! P.S. your Chicken Pot Pie recipe looks amazing.
