St. Patrick’s Day Home Decor

This St. Patrick’s Day Home Decor Vignette will brighten things up in your home as we usher in spring.

You guys, is it spring yet???

St. Patrick’s Day Home Decor is the way to help combat the cabin fever that is killing me right now.

Valentine’s Day has come and gone, Easter is still a loooonnng way off, and in Iowa today, the temperature was a whole 3 degrees when I woke up this morning.

Plus, it doesn’t help when I visit the posts of fellow bloggers living in warmer climates, and they are sharing pics of all the spring flowers blooming already at their homes.

Literally painful.

To combat the winter doldrums I decided to add some bright, fresh greenery to my home with this St. Patrick’s Day Farmhouse Style Vignette. With St. Pat’s Day on the horizon, it seemed the perfect fit.

I still had my Valentine’s Day Vignette on the console table near our front door, so I set to work changing into a St. Patrick’s Day Vignette instead.

Since this was kind of an impulsive decision when I got home from work, I made do with what I could scrounge up from around the house.

I don’t typically decorate for St. Patrick’s Day, so I don’t have a lot of designated “Irish” decorations. But green was the goal, because it’s reminiscent of spring, and representative of St. Patrick’s Day at the same time.

My Costco Christmas Plant

You might remember this beautiful Christmas centerpiece that my hubby brought home from Costco around Thanksgiving time (you gotta buy stuff early at Costco because once it’s gone, it’s gone….).

I had it on my kitchen island from the day after Thanksgiving, right through January.

Christmas to Valentine Transformation

By February I was ready for something different, but the greenery in this plant was still looking wonderful, so I plucked out the pine cone and red cardinal, and replaced them with this sweet little white bird figurine, some artificial bright pink and white flowers, and a heart pick.

It made for a quick and easy (and free!) transformation that brought this Christmas decoration right into the appropriate holiday again!

I left the snowy evergreen tree in because this is Iowa…where we still have snow (sometimes lots of snow) at this time of year.

And Still Yet One More Transformation…

When I decided I wanted to create a St. Patrick’s Day Home Decor vignette, I started looking around the house for things that were green.

This plant was the first thing that jumped out at me. I plucked all the pink stuff out and left the white flowers and the bird.

By this time, the needles were finally started to fall off the evergreen piece, so I took that out, too.

There was a bit of a gap where the evergreen was in the back, so I turned the pot around and used some artificial moss to make a little nest for the bird in that spot.

Can you believe this is the same planter?

It has had three completely different looks. I really like the birch-looking pot it came it too, so after the plants are finally dead (although they seem pretty vigorous, so maybe they will last a long time?)

I can keep this pot and reuse it over and over. This planter only cost $18 originally at Costco, so we’ve definitely gotten our money’s worth from it.

Shopping Your Own House

After I had the planter situated on my entryway console table with a black and white buffalo plaid placement underneath it for contrast, I set about “shopping” my own house for more items to incorporate into this vignette.

I again used my farmhouse wood bead garland, because those are a recent purchase and I’m really digging them right now. I’ve only had them a few weeks, and am discovering so many ways to decorate with them.

Then, I got out my box of Willow Tree Angels that I’ve had packed away for a couple of years because of our move.

Most of them were gifts from my kids, so I’m loving finding ways to display them again.

For this vignette, I selected the Angel of Prayer and the Peace on Earth figurines.

Since the planter is short and wide, I needed something with a little height to balance out this vignette.

A tall, slender vase from my daughter’s wedding worked nicely, with my white, long-stemmed faux tulips.

I have these fabulous tulips in a few different colors, but went with the white this time since I’m aiming for the green to be the dominant color of this display.

Get Crafty With It

My vignette was looking very green and springy by this point, but I wanted to add at least one little detail that would make it a true St. Patrick’s Day home decor display.

Since I didn’t have anything at home, I decided to make my own. I already had this cute coffee wooden box sign that my hubby gave me a few years ago.

I usually have it sitting near the coffee maker, and after I dismantle this vignette, I plan to put it back there. So whatever I did to it had to be temporary, without harming the sign.

I called upon my brown butcher paper again, which I used for our Charcuterie for a Crowd and also to cover the vintage books for my Valentine’s Day Vignette.

Seriously you guys, keep a roll of this on hand. There are so many uses for it! I got mine at the Dollar Tree and it still has plenty of paper left on it after using it multiple times.

I placed the sign flat on a piece of brown paper, traced it, and cut out a piece the exact size as the front of the sign.

Originally, my idea was to wrap the whole block like a gift, but then I decided I liked the pattern on the sides of the block, so ended up only covering the front.

Then I hand drew a very simple design for St. Patty’s Day, placed the paper over the original wording on the sign, and wrapped twine around it to hold it in place.

After looking at it for a moment, I decided it still needed one more element to make it interesting, so I fastened a dried stem of Silver Dollar Eucalyptus, also leftover from my daughter’s wedding into the twine.

So cute, easy, and free!

For my console table, I really like creating vignettes that are interesting from both sides, because they are reflected so beautifully in the mirror that hangs above the table.

I try never to use something that has an unfinished back side because there’s no way to hide it when you set it in front of the mirror.

Look at the tulips in this picture…. because of the reflection, it looks like there are twice as many!

Stay tuned for the next exciting episode of, “What in the World Will She Do With That Planter Next?” But until then, I’ve curated a list of my favorite farmhouse finds to help you give your own home a wee bit more Irish charm and spring cheer.

Top o’ the mornin’ to ya, friends!

  3. Your vignette is so pretty ~ pinned! I like how you’re able to continue to change up the planter for each holiday. I’m visiting from Handmade and Otherwise.

    1. Hello Allyson,
Thanks for visiting! That plant has really lasted a long time and gone through some transformations, that’s for sure. It may still get one more makeover for Easter, too. 😂

  4. That looks amazing!! I so would love an entry table, I just don’t have anywhere to put one. Might have to figure out a spot to do something like this! 🙂

    1. Jamie,
I have always longed for a lovely front entryway as well, and I never had one until we built our home about 1 1/2 years ago. If you make a St. Pat’s vignette in another location, I’d love to see a picture!
      Thanks for stopping by,
      -Niky
