Our inspiration photo this month comes from On Sutton Place. It’s so simple, yet so adorable and perfect for spring!
To replicate something similar to Anne’s design, these are the elements I needed to round up from around my home:
My Spring Lanterns
Anne’s table centerpiece was all the motivation I needed to begin gathering materials to create my own lanterns.
I had a great time putting together these two fun lanterns using spring decor I already had.
I’ve had these two bronze metal lanterns for years. I use them in my living room on the fireplace hearth, filled with my favorite flameless candles most of the time.
They are great for seasonal decorating! No matter what your decor style is, having lanterns on hand in a couple of different sizes or shapes is a great way to switch up your decor for the different holidays and seasons.
I started with the tallest glass lantern and tucked in a distressed, grey color bunny.
I added some straw-like basket filler for him to sit on. The light strands were a nice contrast to the darker colors of the lantern and rabbit.
In the smaller lantern, I added a white carved wood Easter bunny that belonged to my mom.
For some added interest, in this lantern, I used crinkled paper cuttings made from vintage sheet music. It’s a beautiful way to make your own Easter grass that is so unique!
You can see how I made it in this post about my DIY Wooden Decorated Easter Eggs.
The top of the lantern needed some faux carrot decor.
Fortunately, I had a carrot garland in my Easter stash, but you can find some similar HERE, or at Hobby Lobby.
I cut the garland apart and used the strings that were already attached to tie them on to the lantern.
Pitcher with Spring Greenery
I used my farmhouse tin pitcher and filled it with a couple of pussy willow stems, as well as some spring flowers and a bit of greenery.
I couldn’t resist adding two more tiny bunnies for additional whimsy.
The inspiration photo uses a basket tray, but I didn’t have one, so I used an upcycled DIY tray I made using the new Dixie Belle herringbone transfer. It’s the perfect size and shape to hold my lantern display.
I have my spring lantern displayed on my “new” Pottery Barn console table, but a coffee table, kitchen island, or dining table would all be great places for your spring display.
This would make a beautiful centerpiece for an Easter tablescape, too!
More DIY Lantern Ideas
There are so many different shapes and styles of lanterns.
- Choose a brass lantern or a rustic lantern, depending on if you want a simple look or an elegant look
- Add spring ribbon with pretty floral prints to your lanterns for a pop of color
