DIY Ghost Kids [Baby Clothes & Pool Noodle!]

DIY Ghost Kids

These fun DIY Ghost Kids are simple to make using outgrown baby clothes and a pool noodle! I picked up a few supplies from Dollar Tree to add some cute embellishments. You can be creative and customize these any way you want!

Supplies to Make DIY Ghost Kids

I purchased two Halloween ghosts from Dollar Tree, which already included styrofoam and white cloth. If you can’t find these at your Dollar Tree, a styrofoam ball and any white fabric big enough to drape over the DIY ghost kids will work.

You can certainly buy some white fabric at the craft store, but you might already have an old white sheet or pillowcase in your closet that you could use. Also, consider checking out your local thrift store for an old white shirt or linens.

Next, I dug around in a tub of old baby clothes that were my kids from nearly 30 years ago! It was fun to use old clothes with sentimental meaning, but if you don’t have outgrown kids’ clothes around your house, again, check out your local thrift store. You only need pants and shoes.

Forming the Body

I began by bending my pool noodle into a “U” shape and feeding each end into the legs of the little jeans until they were just barely peeking out the bottom.

Then, I placed the shoes on each end of the pool noodle and tied them tightly so they would stay on.

At this point, the body should be able to stand on its own. Try adjusting the width of the legs until you get the right balance.

For my second DIY ghost kid, I used a pair of my daughter’s tiny overalls. To hold them up, I used some packing tape since the waist was too baggy to stay up on its own.

Creating the Head

To create the head, I carefully removed the white cloth from four Dollar Tree ghosts. Since the styrofoam is only a half circle underneath, you’ll need two for each of your DIY ghost kids.

This is what they look like with the white cloth removed.

Use a hot glue gun to fasten two pieces of styrofoam together to form a full head.

Attaching the Head

Now that the two pieces of the head are glued together, you will be left with four arms. Carefully wrap two arms around the top arch of the pool noodle. There is a small piece of wire protruding from each arm that you can push into the pull noodle to hold the head in place.

Here is how it should look.

If you aren’t using the Dollar Tree ghosts, use wooden skewers to attach a styrofoam ball to the top arch of the pool noodle instead. Simply insert one or two skewers into the bottom of the ball, and then poke them into the pool noodle.

Adding the “Ghost” Cloth to Your DIY Ghost Kids

Once your ghost body and head are formed, it’s time to drape the white cloth over the top to create the ghost. Since we used two Dollar Tree ghosts for each kid, you will have two white clothes to drape over each one.

Bend the two remaining arms out to the sides to support the cloth and to hold the candy bag/bucket.

Creating the Face

The white cloth from the Dollar Tree ghosts has a pre-printed face that you can certainly use it if you choose. I wanted a more friendly ghost face, so I cut my own from black felt.

I used tailor’s chalk to draw on the black felt to assist in cutting in the correct shapes. Have you ever used tailor’s chalk for your projects? It makes things like this so much easier.

Then, I glued the face on using hot glue.

Adding Fun Embellishments

I bought this witch’s hat and broom from Dollar Tree for my girl ghost. I also found the little black caldron at Walmart for 96 cents. They had little jack-o-lanterns with a handle that would be extra cute for this project as well!
