When I learned we would be blessed with a new baby grandson, I knew I wanted to make a special piece for his nursery, just like I did for sweet little Evelynn’s room a couple of years ago. A nature-inspired green color worked perfectly on this bookcase for baby boy’s room.

Finding the Right Bookcase
Because of the arrangement and layout of Baby Hayden’s nursery, I had very specific dimensions to work with in regard to a book shelf that would fit.
For months, I looked high and low for a vintage unit that I could restore, with no luck. With time running out, I ended up ordering this unfinished pine bookcase from Amazon.
When it arrived, I was pleasantly surprised at the quality. It’s a sturdy, well-made piece made of solid wood, and it is the perfect size for the dimensions of the space.
Mountain Adventure Theme
Little Hayden’s room is decorated with a sort of “Mountain Adventure” theme. My daughter had picked out a paint sample from a retail store with the color she was hoping for, and I set out to recreate it using a custom color blend of Dixie Belle’s Weeping Willow and Dried Sage.
Because the bookcase came unassembled, it made it quite easy to lay all of the pieces out flat and paint them using Dixie Belle’s Smooth Roller Kit. The paint rolled on quickly and easily with a nice smooth finish.
I used my medium round brush and a small artist’s brush to get into the crevices.
Satin Clear Coat
Once the chalk mineral paint was dry, I gave the entire bookcase a coat of Dixie Belle’s Satin Clear Coat for extra protection.
Peel & Stick
Finally, in keeping with the nature-y mountain theme, I added peel & stick wallpaper to the back panel before assembling the bookcase.
I finished the shelves with a quick coat of Best Dang Wax in clear to make sure that books slide in and out easily.
This sweet bookcase for baby boy’s room turned out just how I hoped. Now, it’s time for this Gigi to get busy filling it with books.

This turned out adorable Niky! I love bookcases in baby rooms because it provides a place for all of the books. Growing up, I always asked for a book whenever we went somewhere so I had quite a few books. Mine were kept in my closet on a shelf, but it was up too high for me to get them down so I always had to ask for help. This will be the perfect height and size when he gets bigger to pull them down himself.
