Today I’m joining several of my super creative blogger friends to share birdhouse spring decor ideas for this round of the Pinterest Challenge, hosted by Cindy at County Road 407.
If you’ve hopped over from French Ethereal, welcome! I’m so glad you’re here to see my version of this lovely inspiration photo from Doreen at Hymns & Verses.

Isn’t Doreen’s tablescape using this birdhouse centerpiece just lovely? I loved it so much I was just itching to create something similar for my own home, but…… I didn’t have a birdhouse. 😕
My Spring Birdhouse Decor Idea
After perusing the offerings at Hobby Lobby, I was pleased to come home with this unfinished wood birdhouse, plus these beautiful glass cabinet knobs. Bonus: everything was 40% off, adding up to only about $10! 🎉

Creating the Birdhouse
My sweet husband helped me out by going out into the cold garage and cutting the little wooden dowel perches off the birdhouse, so I could replace them with the much prettier glass knobs. After he had them sliced off, he drilled down through the center to make holes for the screws.

Because I was planning to paint the roof of the birdhouse copper, I wanted the center screws of the glass knobs to be copper as well. I just poked them into a foam packing insert from the recycle bin to make them stand up, and gave them a quick spray of Rustoleum Universal Hammered Copper spray paint.
I taped off the top of the birdhouse well, using Duck Blue Painters tape, and then wrapped the bottom of the birdhouse with a brown paper sack, to protect it from the copper spray.
I placed the birdhouse inside a box from the recycle bin, to keep any overspray contained. Then, I gave the roof a light spray of copper paint, let it dry about an hour, and gave it a second coat. I love how the Rustoleum Universal Hammered Paint dries with a bit of texture to it, instead of a smooth gloss. It was perfect for the roof of my birdhouse.
I removed all the tape and brown paper, gave the body of the birdhouse a quick coat of white paint, and added my glass knobs with the now-copper screws. Isn’t it cute?!
FYI: Since my birdhouse is not going outside, I just used white craft paint.

Great project. And you can enjoy it all summer too. I just adore birdhouses. It must be from my years of studying and working in architecture and design that I am a geek over miniature little houses for the birds.
