A Simple Buffalo Plaid Christmas Table Setting

This Simple Buffalo Plaid Table Setting is what I wish Christmas dinner would look like this year.

The Christmas table is “set” and ready for dinner tonight. I want so badly for all of us to gather around this table together, but we won’t.

Instead, we will bring up the card tables again as we did for Thanksgiving, move the place settings, and spread our immediate family of eight out to separate tables for individuals or couples, all about 10 feet apart.

The rest of the time we will wear our masks, and dream of that time coming soon, when life will return to “normal”. When we can crowd as many people around this table as can fit. Where we can see everyone’s smile, and celebrate without worry that someone may get sick.

Black and white plaid paper plates from Hobby Lobby serve as dessert plates.
I tucked a small red ornament into the top of the napkin.

There’s nothing I love more than having my people gathered together, talking, laughing, and reminiscing.

Cooking for my family, making memories, celebrating traditions, and making new ones… There’s such comfort and peace in that familiar routine.

I’m so grateful for these people, and that we can still get together in a smaller, altered way, to celebrate the holiday. And I know that there is a light at the end of this tunnel. I can just begin to see a glimmer.

Journey to the Light

Since our church is unable to hold its traditional candlelight services this year, they created a beautiful drive-through experience– Journey to the Light.

The message came through loud and clear and reminded me again to look for the light.

Look for the light church service before Christmas dinner.

We will gather tightly around this table again.

Until then, we will continue down the path of doing what it takes to keep our family safe, and looking for the light.

“The light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it.” ~ John 1:15

Wishing you peace, joy, and the merriest of holidays,
