Sundays on Silverado #62

Life Lately

Although I love fall, I’m not a fan of winter–not the cold, nor the early nightfall it brings with it.

These two photos illustrate how much daylight we are losing on a daily basis. They were both taken at almost exactly 7 pm, just six days apart.

The sun doesn’t lie…. winter is on its way.

After waiting for it to come back in stock for months, I finally got my hands on this white hobnail bowl for my KitchenAid mixer.

Isn’t it beautiful? If hobnail is not your thing, they also make several other stunning patterns. This might make a great gift idea for the baker in your life… or for yourself? 🙂

I promptly tested mine out on Saturday morning by whipping up a couple of loaves of my favorite pumpkin bread.

I was up extra early on this beautiful fall Saturday morning because the mister had to work, so I already had the pumpkin loaves out of the oven and was ready to head outside and work on a project by 7:30 am.

My kinda fall Saturday morning– hot coffee, warm-from-the-oven pumpkin bread, and a project to work on.

Dixie Belle sent me a box of goodies, and I was anxious to get outside and give some of them a try!

In Case You Missed It…

How to Make a Barn Quilt was the first project I completed with my new Dixie Belle paints and stains.

I’ve also been working on my fall front porch, which I hope to show you this week. I shared the DIY Front Door Basket with you already.

    1. Wow, that’s a late release time! Our kids dismiss at 2:55 and teachers can leave at 3:15. My start time is 7:15 though, and I have a 30-minute commute, so I generally am leaving my house at 6:45 and driving to work in complete darkness.

  1. Thank you for the party Niky! I love fall too but I’m dreading the winter. I’ve always been ok with it but that’s changed a lot over recent years. I really have to work hard to embrace the season these days! I hate being cold but you’re right. It’s also the darkness. I feel like I should be in bed because it’s dark outside and in a few more weeks it will be 500pm when that happens! Oh well, I guess we’ll just have to stay busy and hope it goes by fast! Thanks again and have a great week!

    1. Oh Denise, I echo everything you just said. I like winter less and less the older I get. They seem longer, and colder, and darker each year. When it’s already getting dark by the time I get home is the worst. I have no windows in my office at school, and I crave some outside time when I get home. We recently insulated our screen porch to make it a true 3-season room, so we can extend that outside time a bit longer…

      Wishing you a great week!

  2. The sun really doesn’t lie! I have noticed how quickly we are losing daylight hours just last week as well. As much as I love autumn, I really don’t like the shortened sunshine hours! Thanks for hosting the party. I hope you have a lovely week ahead!

  3. Hi Niky
I’m also not a fan of the shorter darker days of winter, but thankfully Colorado’s dry climate and being closer to the hot sun make winter pretty tolerable. Thanks so much for hosting this fun link-up every week!

  4. I agree with your dislike for the shorter days but I love the cooler weather. Guess that’s a trade-off we have to make. Thanks for hosting the party this week.

    1. Hi Janet,
Yes the cooler current weather is nice. I just have to stop thinking about what is coming and enjoy the here and now. My blog reminds me that last year we had snow already on October 16. 🙁

  5. Thanks so much Niky, your 7 pm photos are shocking! I’m not a fan of winter either, but I am enjoying beautiful October! Have a great week!

  6. Niky,
Thanks so much for hosting this charming party each and every week!! I so appreciate all the time and effort that does into it along with visiting all the links and choosing Features!!! Stay safe, healthy and happy!!
    Hugs,
    Deb
