We’ve begun to settle into a new routine now that school has started again. Mornings are once again busy, and my coffee sipping on the porch swing has been relegated to just the weekends. <sigh>
I made a batch of energy bites to assist with the morning rush. My typical recipe is THIS one, which I still love, but I experimented with a new recipe this time, and it is also delicious. It’s nice to have options.
I hope to get this one up on the blog soon. They have a “secret” ingredient. Any guesses?
Trader Joe’s Find
We’re still foregoing our Hello Fresh deliveries a bit longer, since we have so much fresh garden produce to use. Hello Fresh was a big help last year in getting us through some extra busy times, so I think we will start up again after the garden has fully run its course.
For now, we’re looking for alllll the ways to use tomatoes! This week, I bought a Cabernet Pot Roast from Trader Joe’s to serve with some garden veggies on the side. Have you tried TJ’s pot roast?
Seriously, it had me at “Cabernet”, and we were not disappointed. We will be buying this again. And probably again.
It was so delicious for the little amount of effort it was. I just browned it on all sides, per the instructions right on the package, then popped it in the oven to roast, covered, for about an hour and a half. I used my Staub Enameled Cast Iron Dutch Oven, so I was able to brown and roast in the same pot, easy-peasy.
I served it over creamy polenta, and sauteed fresh garden cherry tomatoes and green beans to along with it. A sprinkle of fresh Parmesan on the side, and it was ready to serve. This was one of those meals that had no recipe, but came together even better than I imagined.
Seriously you guys, go to TJ’s and buy this pot roast. It’s in the fresh meat section. You can thank me later.
Speaking of Tomatoes….
We stopped over at my son’s apartment this week, and delivered this box of fresh produce from our garden. He and his girlfriend also love to cook, so I can’t wait to see what they do with all of this homegrown goodness. ❤️
In Case You Missed It…
Tuesday was another round of the fun Pinterest Challenge, and this time the focus was on ideas for fall fireplace decor. I decoreated the mantel in our screened porch, getting it all ready for the upcoming cozy fall evenings. I’m so ready for this scorching heat to go away, how about you? Over it.

I always see various old keys for sale when we are browsing at antique shops and flea markets. This method to display them from Julie at Restyle Relove is so cute. Now I need some keys….

It’s no secret how much I love to picnic. My husband and I always look for places with lovely scenery where we can picnic with a bottle of wine and a charcuterie tray, so when I saw this beautiful beach picnic with a vintage suitcase as a table, I was smitten.
If you don’t have a vintage suitcase to haul your picnic in, you might try this picnic backpack that we love. It is insulated, has a wine holder on one side, a blanket on the other, and all the utensils you need for a lovely picnic, including a cork screw, cheese board, and plastic wine glasses. Picnic dates are the best.
