Welcome to Sundays on Silverado #51!
The weather this week has been a hot, humid mess. We love being outside as much as possible, but during the middle part of the day, it’s just been terrible. It’s nice to drink coffee outside in the morning, since we typically get up early, and usually, if we have a late dinner, we can eat outside. But the middle part of the day? No way.
I made more Easy Refrigerator Pickles, because the garden is producing cucumbers like I’ve never seen before! Fortunately, the family loves them, and keeps aksing for more, so now I can send jars home with all of them each time they come over.
I’m gearing up for the tomatoes next. I’m going to try my hand at pizza sauce, tomato paste, and salsa as soon as the tomatoes start coming in full-force.
I enjoy canning, in part, because it reminds me of my mom and grandmother. I have a big box of canning supplies and equipment that I brought home from my mom’s when we cleaned out her house to sell it after she died. It had things in it that were hers, and things she had kept from my grandmother’s after she died, too. Using their things to can these homemade goodies for my own family feels like a small way to still connect with them.
Pinterest Challenge with Strawberries
I baked these summer treats in preparation for this month’s Pinterest Challenge. Usually we have a home decor theme, but this month is all about strawberries! I hope you’ll come back on Tuesday to see my recipe, as well as recipes from many other talented bloggers.
In Case You Missed It…
The cherry tomatoes are ripening first, so we had this Caprese Flatbread to use some. It’s made with a naan bread crust, so you can pull this together in no time for an easy summer supper or for Happy Hour at Home.
Also, I worked on giving one of our guest bedrooms a sentimental update using many family keepsakes, plus some pretty linens gifted to me by Elegant Strand. Fortunately, I was able to work on this project mostly indoor, so it was a good way to keep out of the heat and still get stuff done. Summer is flying by way too fast.
The Weekly Features!
The dog days of summer are here. It’s hot, and I’m trying to keep the heat out of the house, so salads, “no cook” recipes, and food prepared on the grill are ideal. Plus, the garden is pumping out produce and herbs right now, so I’m looking for all the recipes I can find to use our delicous, fresh harvest.
The Sundays on Silverado link party was filled with so many great summer foods and recipes this week! Thanks so much to everyone who shared!
