Farmhouse Spring Decor Ideas to Brighten Up Your Home

I don’t know about you guys, but once Valentine’s Day is over, I’m ready to go full-on SPRING decorating at my house. Give me all the fresh greenery, florals, birds, bunnies and sunshine! Today, I’m sharing my favorite farmhouse spring decor ideas to brighten up your home.

Farmhouse Spring Decor Ideas to Brighten Up Your Home

1. Florals and/or Greenery

One of the easiest ways to brighten up your home for spring is to add in greenery and florals.

If you have a green thumb, by all means, go for the real stuff! But, faux greenery and florals have come a long way. I have several varieties that look so close to the real thing, and they are perfect for bringing in pops of color and a fresh outdoor vibe. At this time of year, I’m craving green plants, flowers and being able to garden, so for now, when it is literally -35 in Iowa right now, my faux plants will have to suffice.

2. Rugs

Spring is the ideal time to freshen up your rugs. They may have taken a beating through the winter months and holidays, so give them a good clean to freshen them up, or maybe even replace them. Rugs are a great way to change the whole feel of a room.

3. New Accent Pieces

Add some fresh new accent pieces in to your spring decor. Maybe now’s the time to get a tiered tray, and have fun changing it up for each season. Buy a couple of smaller decor items and create a fresh spring vignette on your mantel, console table, kitchen island. Or, if it’s in the budget, a new furniture piece can really change up the look and feel of a room for a whole fresh new look.

4. Pillows

I used to avoid buying throw pillows because it was so hard to find room to store them, but now I’ve discovered accent pillow covers that just zip on and off. I use the same set of pillow forms, and can easily change out my pillows inside my home, on my three-season porch and even outside on my covered front porch. And, when I’m not using them, they just fold up and take barely any storage space.

5. Sparkle

Every room should have a bit of sparkle. You can accomplish that with a pretty mirror, various metals in your decor items (copper, chrome, brass). My favorite way to get sparkle is with mercury glass. I love the way it blends well with my neutral decor, has a vintage vibe, and a subdued shine.

6 Wall Art

Add in a new piece of wall art to immediately brighten up a room. You can see my farmhouse travel map in my Home Office Makeover post, and my vintage Chicago street map art in my Bathroom Update. Both pieces of wall art freshened up the rooms and gave them an updated feel.

7. Lighting

Recently, I wrote about how I use various types of lighting to create ambiance all year long in my home. Whether it’s a new lamp, flameless candles in lanterns, or puck lights for backlighting, lighting is an ideal way to literally brighten up your home for spring.

8. Organize

Spring is a great time to do some spring cleaning and organizing. Getting rid of clutter and making sure everything has a place instantly makes your space feel brighter, cleaner, and even larger. Plus, there are so many pretty containers and baskets available that serve double-duty as organizers and lovely home decor items at the same time.

You can see organization tips in my Pantry Makeover post, as well as my Bathroom & Linen Closet Organization post.

9. Paint

It never fails to amaze me how easy it is to change the entire look and feel of a piece of furniture, a thrifted item that needs an update, or even an entire room, with nothing more than paint.

My favorite paint is General Finishes Milk Paint. It comes in so many lovely colors and brushes on smoothly and easily. The colors below are my favorites.

10. Fresh Scents

Nothing says “spring” like a lovely fresh, nature-y scent filling your home. There are some of my favorite farmhouse fresh candles.

11. Natural Tones & Natural Textures

Adding in textures and wood tones (plus pops of seasonal color) is a great way to brighten up your home and give it a fresh feel. Sometimes people overlook how important texture and natural elements are in making a space feel authentic.

10. Don’t Forget Outside!

And don’t forget your door, front porch, and outside patio spaces. A fresh wreath and cute new doormat or rug welcomes spring to your outdoor spaces as well.

There are so many wreaths available for purchase, or you can try your hand at making your own.

Happy Spring (It’s coming, right?),

  1. I am house-hunting and so keen to do up a house and make the interiors delightful. I certainly want a map on the wall. Great inspiration here – thank you! #MMBC #MondayMorningBlogClub
