The Easiest Beer Bread

This Easy Beer Bread recipe is perfect when you want hot and fresh bread for dinner in a hurry! It requires only a few ingredients, no rise time, and easy clean up.

No yeast? No problem…. This recipe relies on the yeast in the beer to do the job for you.

In less than one hour, your house will be filled with the smell of fresh-baked bread, and your family will be lining up for a slice!

The Ingredients

Flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, butter and beer. That’s it.

I used this pretzel flavored beer that my son gave us to try, but you can experiment with different varieties.

For the mildest flavor, a light beer is best, but seasonal brews would be so fun here, too. What about a pumpkin ale? Ohhh, that sounds good.

A brown ale, lager, or porter would all be wonderful. Really, use your favorite beer, or experiment for a little fun!

Sift the Flour, please!

I highly recommend you sift your flour for this bread. Since the bread doesn’t require rising time, the sifting gives it an extra fluff, so your bread doesn’t turn into a brick! That would be sad…

Add the baking powder. I sifted it right in with the flour. Stir the sugar in now, too.

Add the Beer

Slowly pour the beer into your dry ingredients, and allow it to finish bubbling before stirring it all together.

Spoon the thick batter into a greased loaf pan and place it in a 350 degree, preheated oven.

Bake

Bake for about 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Immediately pour the melted butter over the top of the loaf. When cool enough to handle, remove to a wire baking rack.

Serving Suggestions

This bread is best served warm, with an extra smear of butter on each slice! It is perfect to serve with a hot bowl of soup. Imagine dipping this into a savory tomato soup, or a creamy bowl of broccoli cheddar. Yes, please.

It works great as an appetizer. It’s my favorite bread to use for fondue or to serve with dips, because it’s so hardy and dense, it can stand up to the dipping.

My hubs and I nibbled on this loaf as an appetizer, along with a glass of wine, while we prepared our dinner one night this week.

You simply cannot go wrong with this one, friends.

Ingredients
  

  • 3 cups flour sifted
  • 3 tsps baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 TBSP sugar
  • 1 (12 ounce) can of beer
  • 4 TBSP butter melted

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350ºF.
  • Spray a loaf pan with cooking spray.
  • Sift flour, sugar, and baking powder together in a medium-sized mixing bowl.
  • Slowly pour in the beer and stir until foaming subsides and flour is incorporated.
  • Spoon into prepared pan and bake for 50–60 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • While bread is still hot, pour melted butter over the top. Remove from pan as soon as bread is cool enough to handle.
  • Serve bread warm, generously smeared with more butter. 😊

Notes

Sifting the flour is very important in this recipe.  If the flour is not fluffy, you will end up with a hard brick, since this bread does not require time to rise.  
If you don’t have a flour sifter, use a hand whisk or even a fork to fluff the flour so it is not overly compacted.
