We’ve been so busy around here! The dust is settling on the wedding now, but basketball season is just starting. Our youngest is a senior in high school and playing varsity basketball, so with his first game this Tuesday, plus holiday prep in full swing–and with such a short time to be ready for Christmas this year 🤪– it’s about to ramp up even more.
We did have a very nice Thanksgiving, though, which I don’t want to get lost in the shuffle. We were missing some of our family who didn’t come, but the day was a fun and relaxing one nonetheless. And, we were blessed to get to welcome some new family to celebrate with us –our daughter’s new in-laws! I loved having them here.
It was my first time hosting Thanksgiving at our place, and doing all the holiday cooking. I loved preparing many of our traditional holiday family favorites, as well as being able to enjoy some delicious dishes brought by our guests!
Nancy (my daughter’s mother-in-law) brought stuffing made 2 different ways, and a pumpkin torte. Both were delicious!
My mother-in-law brought 2 different cranberry sauces. Again, both were excellent!
And my daughter and new son-in-law made one of his family favorites, corn casserole. I could see why it’s his favorite after tasting it!
Mark and I successfully prepared our first turkey– a 21 pounder! It required a lot of research and You Tube watching to make sure we knew what we were doing, but we pulled it off!
I always enjoy setting a pretty table. As part of the table decor,I used some greenery from my daughter’s wedding that I had dried. It was lovely and a bit sentimental. Especially since after dinner we all gathered downstairs and went through each and every one of the 1285 wedding photos we recently got back from the photographer. I can’t wait to share some of my favorites soon.
I made an economical flower centerpiece by purchasing a $10 mixed bouquet from the HyVee floral department.
They wanted $30 or more for their already made centerpieces. Making my own allowed me to use my own vintage container, which I liked better anyway, and create a centerpiece of just the right size and height for my table arrangement. And for a third of the price.
Since I had Wednesday off from work, I used that time to make two pies. One was a traditional pumpkin, and the other was an apple pie using an old recipe from my Grandmother Louise, my mom’s mother. It was an enjoyable and relaxing way to spend part of my day off, and I loved adding it to all the other family memories on our buffet. ❤️
Plus, our son Kyle deemed it “the best apple pie ever”, so that’s a win. 😀
Naps were enjoyed….
Beverages were consumed…
Bellies were filled…
