Subscription boxes are super popular right now. You’ve probably heard of the meal subscription boxes that send all the ingredients you need right to your door, so you can cook up some delicious dinners at home without all the shopping and planning. But, there are so many other types of boxes as well–beauty boxes, book boxes, clothing boxes….you name it.
Shaker & Spoon
Last August, when we were preparing to move into our new home, I stumbled across Shaker & Spoon, which is a cocktail box monthly subscription. Right away, I knew it would be the perfect housewarming gift for my husband, who calls himself a “mixologist”. He enjoys experimenting with creating the most delicious cocktails, and I enjoy tasting them. 🙂 Happy Hour at our house is a thing. So, when I discovered Shaker & Spoon, I knew it was right up his alley.
Each month, Shaker & Spoon sends you a box with 3 cocktail recipes, and everything you need to make 12 drinks (4 from each recipe). The actual bottle of alcohol is not included, because there are shipping restrictions in different states, plus when alcohol is allowed to be shipped, someone has to be home to sign for it. I actually prefer that it’s not included, because sometimes we already have the required alcohol in our bar, and if not, it gives us the option of choosing the brand and size we prefer. Plus delivery is so much easier, because they just drop it at our door and it’s a fun little surprise when we get home!
Included in the Shaker & Spoon box is any fresh produce required for the 3 recipes, like lemons or limes, plus syrups, bitters, garnishes and mixers. All of their syrups are house-made and come in cute little mini-sized bottles.
The box also includes recipe cards to guide you through mixing and garnishing the cocktails, step by step. You also receive a glossary card to explain any unfamiliar bartending terms you might not know. It really is so simple to just follow the instructions and create bar-quality drinks!
I started with a 3-month gift subscription from Shaker & Spoon, so we could try it out. Then, after my husband received the email with the code to redeem my gift, he was able to set up his own account, and now can continue on a month-to-month basis with any additional boxes he wants to receive. I love that Shaker & Spoon always gives you a month’s notice about what the next box will be, with the option to skip any boxes that don’t appeal to you.
Shaker & Spoon is a great gift idea, but also fun for “date-night at home”, which is how we frequently use it. After a busy week, I usually prefer to just stay home on a Friday night. Since the box makes 12 drinks total, we can stretch our box across three Friday nights, giving us 2 drinks each, of 3 different kinds. We usually pair it with some cheese and crackers, or a simple flatbread that we make at home, take it out on the deck or screened porch, and it’s the perfect relaxing ending to a hectic week.
If you’d like to try Shaker & Spoon, you can use this referral link they gave me to share with you, and you’ll get 50% off your first box! I’m telling ya, folks, you’re gonna love it.
And if you decide to give it a try, drop me a comment and let me know your thoughts. I’d love to hear from you!
